He Whetu Arataki youth leadership program is a vision born from Te Runanga o Ngāti Hauiti over 10 years ago. The focus of the program is to support, nurture and develop future Ngāti Hauiti leaders who will become strong, confident and passionate young adults that succeed in their chosen careers. The following kaupapa are the core components that are implemented in every noho. They are delivered in a way that rangatahi can relate to and understand. We believe that these kaupapa are instrumental in building strong, confident and passionate young people.
Hauititanga: Rangatahi are able to become confident and culturally secure in who they are as Ngāti Hauiti. Historical korero, whakapapa, waiata, haka, pātere and moteatea are the tools used to develop this kaupapa.
Kotahitanga: Rangatahi strengthening themselves as individuals and as a group.
Rangatiratanga: Rangatahi identify leadership in themselves and others around them.
Manaakitanga: Rangatahi are able to strengthen and support themselves and their peers
Whānaungatanga: Rangatahi and whānau build stronger relationships with peers and their whānau
The next noho and intake for He Whetu Arataki will be held on the 16th and 17th of July at Rata Marae starting at 10 am on Saturday and finishes on Sunday at 12 pm. All noho are held during school holidays. There is no monetary cost for attending noho. The only cost is time and commitment from rangatahi and whānau to attend each noho.
Te Runanga o Ngāti Hauiti has invested time, money and resources to make this program a success. If you would like more information about the program or would like to register your rangatahi for the 16th and 17th July noho then please contact Project Manager Kelly Thompson on the details below. Registrations will need to be confirmed no later than the 11th July 2016.
