There is a powhiri at 11am Sunday 11th September at Rata Marae for Ngā Iwi o Mokai Patea as well as preparation for the powhiri on Monday morning for the Tribunal and others.

Ngā mihi
E ngā iwi, e ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha o ngā hau e whā, tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou katoa! The Mōkai Pātea Waitangi Claims Trust will be hosting the Waitangi Tribunal, from 12-15 September 2016, for Ngā Kōrero Tuku Iho. This is our opportunity to tell our stories, to deliver our waiata, whilst standing on our whenua. This hui will lead us into the Taihape Inquiry Substantive Hearing that is scheduled to commence in early 2017. Ngā iwi o Mōkai Pātea are encouraged to attend this hui if you are able to do so. The general timetable for this 4-day hui is as follows:
MONDAY 12th 9am – 5pm, Rātā Hall Whakapapa and early origins Settling in the Mōkai Pātea rohe

TUESDAY 13th 9am – 5pm, Rātā Hall Ngāti Hauiti Ngāi Te Ohuake

WEDNESDAY 14th 9am – 5pm, Hīkoi for the Waitangi Tribunal Sites of Significance

THURSDAY 15th 9am – 5pm, Moawhango Marae Ngāti Tamakōpiri Ngāti Whitikaupeka

The pōwhiri for Ngā iwi o Mōkai Pātea will be held at 11am, on Sunday 11th September, at Rātā Marae (Te Hou Hou Road, Rātā). Following this, we will practice our waiata and pātere and then an update on the hui and more detail on what can be expected for the coming days will be delivered. At 9am, Monday 12th, Ngā iwi o Mōkai Pātea will deliver an extensive haka pōwhiri to the Waitangi Tribunal, Crown and manuhiri, bringing them onto Rātā Marae. Commencement of the Ngā Kōrero Tuku Iho hui is scheduled for approximately midday and will be held at the Rātā Hall (situated at the back of Rātā Marae). Ngā iwi o Mōkai Pātea are asked to note, that following the hīkoi for the Waitangi Tribunal on Wednesday 14th, we will welcome them and the Crown into the Moawhango rohe by way of a combined pōwhiri for both Moawhango Marae and Te Riu o Puanga Marae. This will commence at 4pm, Moawhango Marae, Wherewhere Road, Moawhango. Any updates will be emailed through and posted up on our Facebook page.
